https://docs.google.com/…/1FAIpQLSfO98K8HWfg8xqPtw…/viewform Your District Officers and Advisors have already shared the many great things we have in store for you NEXT WEEKEND in Los Angeles for DLC, so to wrap it all up, here’s my two cents. (no sense) p.s. I am not a vocalist/singer. I am a tuba girl and your Western District Counselor. Be kind. Happy Friday. xD - Vanessa McPherson

Happy 11th Day of DLC y'all!
I'm here to talk to you all about this years DLC Service Projects! The beginning of DLC also marks the end of this year's District-wide instrument drive! Please bring all materials that your chapters have collected, and they will be donated to a very lucky school in need. The official Service Project for this year will be a group of performances at the VA hospital! Two groups will be traveling throughout the hospital common rooms, and one will be stationed outside of the hospital. I cannot wait to hear all of the wonderful music that everyone will be performing! Good luck everyone, and have a great day! AEA & MLitB, MENELAUS #DLCLA2017 -- Jake Rocco And on the 10th day of DLC, you have the opportunity
to sign up for NIB recording! The National Intercollegiate Band has an incredible history of contributing to the advancement of collegiate bands. This band is open to all collegiate musicians even if they are not a member of Kappa Kappa Psi or Tau Beta Sigma. Sometimes it can be difficult to gather recording material to submit your NIB audition, but now you don’t have to worry about that! You can conveniently record your audition right at DLC! The NIB is such a great opportunity to meet, rehearse, and perform with some of the greatest collegiate musicians in the nation! To schedule a recording session at DLC, please sign up at: https://docs.google.com/…/1cptsrGdCABeJ8i1gNRAPy_PaO8…/edit… If you would like to learn more about the history of the NIB, you can go to: http://www.tbsigma.org/nib.html#history If you would like to learn more about the audition process and/or start your application, you can go to: http://nib.kkytbsonline.com/audition-information/ This year, the conductor of the NIB is Richard Clary, Professor of Music, Senior Band Conductor, and Director of Wind Ensemble Studies at FSU. To learn more about him, you can visit: http://nib.kkytbsonline.com/2017-conductor/ Also, as a part of the 10th day of DLC, don’t forget to continue collecting items for the Western District Instrument Supply Drive! Registration ends THIS Friday (January 6th) at 11:59pm PST! The District Council can’t wait to see you all at #dlcla2017! MLITB <3 -Jennifer Thornton 8th day of DLC!
The Joint Council wanted to make sure this year's conference would be applicable for everyone who attends so we came up with the idea of tracks. Besides the officer specific slots, we have provided workshops for newly actives and 2+ years active. We have tailored these to how your interests may have changed during your tenure active and how to participate as a leader in your current status as an active. I hope that these tidbits are getting you as excited for DLC as I am! Don't forget DLC registration is due January 6th (a mere 4 days away)! (Check it out at dlcla.weebly.com) - Kaitlyn Leung Today is Day 7 of DLC 2017!!! It seems like yesterday when the joint council first commenced its planning of DLC, but here we are, 12 days away from the event. The council was motivated to rise to the challenge of reconstructing DLC, and I'm proud to say, we have risen.
This year, each district officer has the opportunity to work directly with their chapter officers! Instead of mere words you read from emails or the strange virtual images that stare back at you during a Google Hangout, you get to work in person! It would be an understatement to say I'm excited, because that doesn't even begin to express my excitement. Using the KKPsi council as an example, we were SO much more productive when we met in person for our retreat. The quality of discussions we had was outstanding simply because we shared the same physical space. I see DLC 2017 as the district's special retreat because for 3 days, we would be in our own bubble to strengthen the bonds we have as Brothers and Sisters. It's been too long since I've seen your beautiful faces in person, so join your fellow Brothers and Sisters for an enlightening experience at DLC! Happy New Year, everyone! AEA & MLITB #321Lead - Shi Ya Ni Day 6 of DLC 2017 hype!! One of the highlights of DLC is that it is programmed by students for students; the joint councils have been working tirelessly to connect with officers, chapters, and members to identify rich activities and learning sessions for the Brothers and Sisters of the West! Not only are the opportunities for learning endless, but the chance to have an impact on your bands and the local community from what you learn through the collaboration and student-driven premise of DLC has led to amazing, fun, and unforgettable memories!
-Charlene Ronne ~And on the 5th Day of DLC-hype
My District Council gave to me…. TWO guest speakers; And their names are Erika and Kelly~! (See? It even rhymed!) That’s right y’all. Saturday morning of DLC we will have Erika Pope (TBS, National Vice President for Communication & Recognition) and Kelly Nellis (KKPsi, 2013-2015 National Vice President for Student Affairs) who will be virtually attending DLC to give a presentation on the topic [Leadership no titles & How to Lead within a chapter] They’ll talk based on their own experiences about how to contribute in the chapter setting without having a leadership position; something that we all as actives can improve on as individuals that ties in with our ‘Leadership Stories’ theme. It's something all of the council is super excited about, and we hope you all will be too! We’re looking forward to seeing you all in UCLA, and if you haven’t already registered… do so here! It's due Jan. 6th!! -Alyssa Maher Hello hello, brothers and sisters of the West!
Welcome to the fourth day of DLC and I'm so excited to talk about Joint Experience! For DLC 2017, this year's ceremony ties in with our conference's theme: leadership stories and our journeys within them. I am proud to say this is my favorite part of this event because the joint district council and advising team join together to enrich your experiences with the West. Every time I attend, not only is it exciting to be together but we are the only district across America who comes together. With thousands of miles of travel and being the smallest district, we are truly lucky to have this ceremony to be together and experience something as one. We truly are the best in the west. And with that in mind, don't forget DLC registration is due January 6th! (Check it out at dlcla.weebly.com) Mlitb, Natalie Kimura WD VPM P.S. With all seriousness aside, here's a "serious" post-joint experience picture of Omicron attending DLC 2016. OMG...the 3rd Day of DLC!!
I am going to take this chance to share how excited I am to see our WD Brothers and Sisters start and/or build upon RELATIONSHIPS WITH THOSE OUTSIDE YOUR CHAPTER! DLC has a more intimate feel than other District Events- it is a perfect time to step out of your comfort zone and meet others. There is so much to be learned from each other, both on a musical level and human level. Sit next to a new face, make meal plans with new people, and take the opportunity to talk with someone you just met. You would be surprised where those relationships will take you. As your Governor, I look forward to seeing each of you have an experience. An experience you will always take with you and will often speak of with fond memories. Make plans to join us!
